June 2021 Show and Tell
For the June 2021 Show and Tell, Smith Mountain Lake Woodturners Club members were asked to submit photos of their favorite projects completed during the previous 15 months of the COVID-19 pandemic. See the comments below the slideshow for a few remarks about selected photos.
Harris Ferguson - The trike and buggy are a mix of white oak, walnut and cherry…plus some parts and pieces from scrap piles. The bench buggy spokes are cherry, the rim is white oak and the hub cap is cherry and white oak. The spokes were tuned first then bolted in the hub lugs pattern (I used a trailer hub) and then turned off the end of my lathe. The OD of the wheel was around is around 23”. The tires on the buggy were made for a Model A Ford. The front tire on the tricycle is 44” tall. The handlebar grips are ambrosia maple. Parts of the Torque converter cover are turned. The headlight can is a walnut burl.
Jay Walter - Several variations of John Beaver’s wave bowls. After investing in the bandsaw cutting fixture, had to at least give it a try. Would be interested to talk to others who have tried it about their successes and failures.
Willie Simmons - Woven bottom bowl- Something I have thought about doing for years. It sits on feet to allow air movement. About 18” diameter.
